Editorial policy: how I keep this site honest
This page explains how pages on this site are researched, written, checked and corrected. The short version: primary sources, dates on every figure, my employer named on every page, and no money changing hands.
Sourcing
- Facts about law come from the Arizona Revised Statutes on azleg.gov and from the agencies that administer them: the Arizona Department of Education, the Arizona Department of Health Services for immunizations, the State Board for Charter Schools, and the ESA program.
- Facts about a specific school or district come from that school's or district's own published pages, and are linked.
- Rankings, grades and reviews are attributed to the organisation that produced them (the Department of Education's letter grades, Niche, and so on) and described as what they are, with their limits stated.
- Where a figure could not be verified against a primary source, the page says so and tells you where to check.
Dates
Each page shows a "last reviewed" date. Arizona education figures move on a calendar, and pages are rechecked on it:
| When | What is rechecked |
|---|---|
| Early July | ESA award amounts for the new school year; tax-credit scholarship limits |
| Late July | District and charter start dates |
| August | Immunization requirements |
| January | Open-enrollment windows and private school application deadlines |
| After each legislative session | Statute changes |
Disclosure
I work for Verde Valley School in Sedona as its Director of Advancement and Enrollment Strategy. That is stated in the footer of every page, on the about page and in the site's structured data. This site is a personal project: the school does not publish, fund, edit or review it. Verde Valley School appears in listings only where any comparable school would, in the same format, and nowhere else. No page uses promotional language about it.
Money
No school, district, scholarship organisation or company pays to be mentioned, linked or described, and that includes my employer. The site carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no referral arrangements. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.
If your school or organisation is listed here
Schools, districts, charter networks, online programmes and scholarship organisations named on this site may ask for their entry to be corrected or updated at any time through the contact page. The rules are the same for everyone, including the author's employer:
- Say which page and which fact, and point to where the correct information is published on your own site or in a public filing. Updates are checked against that source, not taken on trust.
- Entries stay in the site's neutral format: grades, location, type, cost as published, accreditation, link. There is no space for a school's own description, and no entry is reordered, expanded or emphasised in exchange for an update.
- Cost figures are the ones published on your site, with the school year they apply to. If you would rather no figure appear, say so and the entry will read "see the school's site".
- Verified changes are made on the page with a short dated note. Requests to remove accurate, sourced information are declined, but a reply explaining why is always sent.
- Schools with a structured listing can be issued a key that lets them update only their own fact fields, through a web form, a REST call or an MCP connection; see how schools update their listing. Each school's key is scoped to its row, every change is logged with the old and new values, and new schools start in review mode, where nothing publishes until I approve it.
Corrections
If you find an error, use the contact page. Confirmed corrections are made on the page itself with a short note of what changed and when. I do not quietly rewrite.
Use of AI tools
Research and first drafts are produced with the help of AI tools. Before a page is published, and at each review date, I check every fact, figure and link against the sources listed on the page. AI-drafted text that could not be verified is removed, not published with a caveat.
What this site will not do
- Rank schools, or imply a ranking by order or emphasis.
- Criticise a named school. It describes categories and trade-offs instead.
- Collect your personal information in order to read a page.
- Give legal advice. Enrollment disputes are a matter for the district, the Department of Education or an attorney.
Sources and where to verify
- Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 15 (Education)
- Arizona Department of Education
- Arizona Department of Health Services, school immunizations
Frequently asked questions
Who checks the facts?
The author, Michael Janzen, checks each fact against the linked primary source before publication and at each scheduled review.
Do schools pay to be listed?
No. There is no paid placement, advertising or referral arrangement of any kind, and the author's employer gets no special treatment.
Can a school update its own listing?
Yes. Send the page, the fact and a link to where your site publishes the correct information through the contact page. Verified updates are made in the same neutral format with a dated note; no school may write its own entry.
How do I report an error?
Use the contact page and say which page and which fact. Corrections are made on the page with a note.
Is AI used to write these pages?
AI tools help with research and drafting. A person verifies every fact before anything is published, and unverifiable text is cut.
Why does an admissions director publish this?
Because he answers these questions constantly and thinks the honest answers should be free and easy to find. The about page explains in full, including where he works and how the site stays fair.
